~Sit. Feast on your life.~ Derek Walcott

At 39, Val realized she didn't have to save the treat of edible flowers just for others.

Love it Val! I haven't really eaten flowers yet, except for nasturtiums and candied roses and violets, oh and lavendar. I need to get with the program! xo

Thank you, Marie and Lisa. :)

And yes, Lisa, I usually have a bunch of things on-hand here for salads--odds-and-ends leftover vegetables, canned chickpeas, hard-boiled eggs, olives, nuts (I usually use almonds slices, but sometimes chopped-up Brazil nuts or walnuts), and some type of cheese (a little Feta or Parmesan is good because they have that almost salty "tangy-ness" so you don't need to use much at all to get the flavor), and then I just decide whatever-else I want to add to it--seeds, tuna or shredded chicken or turkey, any extra vegetables or salad/leaf-type, dressing, roasted vegetables (yellow squash in this salad), etc. And I've been on a chia seed kick lately, so those are the tiny black balls speckled throughout this one. :) One of the grocery stores nearby has a salad bar, so that helps when I want just a little of a few different things too. If I already have the rest of the ingredients for my bowl, it's not THAT expensive to buy a container of a mish-mash of "extras" for it. It'll be much easier and less expensive when I can have a garden someday again, though! :)
