The cicadas are back in town

Cicadas have been serenading the city every evening this summer.  This one rested on the bedroom window screen awhile today.  Some find their screeching song annoying, but I love the sound.

I can''t hear them (hearing impaired) and they scare the heck out of me when they land on me or anything near me. Weird---I can't take a bug with a shell!!

..."A bug with a shell." Ha! Yes, Jane. The only bug that is truly scary to me is the house centipede. 'Horrid-looking thing. Here's a pic that captures it well: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/da/House_centipede_house_cat_2.jpg

--although the times Stuffed has seen one, he has appeared more baffled by it than anything. He goes after spiders and mice and has pawed at squirrels and birds through the window, but he sees a centipede run past him on the floor and just looks at it wide-eyed like he doesn't know what it even is, which seems a reasonable response given how they look.

Praying Mantises are more odd and creepy to me than scary. They ARE odd. :)

Yes, exactly--an end-of-summer sound. I remember hearing them at my grandparents' house as a kid when I'd stay with them in the summers. :) ♥

Monique has described it well. The sound of summer ending. I miss it here. Xoxo
